Broward County

In 1915 Palm Beach County and Miami-Dade County contributed nearly equal portions of land to create Broward County. From the beginning, the county was considered a leader in agriculture products and services within the State of Florida. The massive post-World War II buildup of the South Florida region transformed the region.

As of 2010 the population was 1,748,066; making it the second most populated county in the state. It is also the 18th most populous county in the United States. As of February 2009 , there were 31 incorporated municipalities, the most populous of which is Fort Lauderdale. Pembroke Pines- Hollywood area comprises the other most populated areas. The county also boasts a major international airport. The Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport had humble beginnings as a military base. However following World War 2 it was closed and transferred to county control. Commercial flights to Nassau began on June 2, 1953 and domestic flights began in 1958–59.
